This is the guest lodge at Findhorn completed in 1992. The timber used in the structure is treated with non-toxic sealants. The roof is equipped with photovoltaic panels, which provide all domestic hot water heating, and indigenous plant species (notice no need for gutters). The stone comprising the walkway and the skirting of the foundation are all harvested locally. A south oriented facade takes full advantage of passive solar. The walls of the structure do not use traditional vapor seal. Rather, a breathing wall has been developed to allow a controlled transfer of air and moisture. Photo courtesy of The Ecovillage Findhorn
